The Warrick County ARES/RACES and Warrick Emergency Management Agency once again joined forces with the Ohio Valley Amateur Radio Club to take part in the annual ARRL Field Day event at Boonville City Lake. One of the chances during the year the groups come together to bring out the communications trailers, to update, repair and use these trailers to be ready in case they are called upon for assistance.
The Indiana District 10 Mobile Emergency Operations Center or MEOC in Warrick County is been equipped with communication devices that would allowed the Emergency services systems to operate away from the normal locations in the event of any situation that had disrupted Central Dispatch service.
This trailer is brought out of storage on two occasions yearly, not related to emergency situations. The first is ARRL Field Day in June and the second is the annual Warrick 4-H fair in July.
The Warrick ARES/RACES AuxCom trailer is the little sister to the MEOC. It is also equipped with radio communications but for Amateur Radio communication needs. This trailer is still under construction to work on the many needed additions that are being installed to have a fully functional quick deploy communications MMEOC (Mini MEOC).
The MMEOC currently is home to UHF/VHF vertical antenna, 440mhz repeater, 144mhz and 440mhz radio as well as any power needed for a quick deployment while the other systems are being repaired. With the 50ft push-up mast there also is the ability to have many types of HF antennas installed in just minutes. More work to come as the hardware arrives for installation. A planned 80m loop, and End-Fed will be available in the near future as well as the HF stations.
